Festival Big Bang, at Lisbon’s Centro Cultural de Belém, is back for its 15th edition on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October. Friday is for schools and Saturday is family day, with programming across several spaces and times. Saturday tickets cost €4.50, or €5 for shows in the Main Auditorium.
Kate Bush for anyone who doesn’t know her yet
Cloudbusting is a concert of about 20 minutes for ages 6 and up. Belgian singer Aline Goffin takes a voice, a mini guitar and a pair of drumsticks through Kate Bush’s songs, “Running Up That Hill” included, while visual artist Nele Fack’s holograms put hands and images all around her face.
Saturday’s shows are at 11:00, 13:00, 14:15 and 16:00 in the Sala Sega. The meeting point is the cube in Praça CCB, fifteen minutes before, and tickets are €4.50. The show’s official page has the rest.
A bear, a vulture and a whale
In the sound installation Apex, listed by the CCB as Feeding Grounds, in the Jardim das Oliveiras, entry is free and visitors carry a Chronophone, a gadget that turns roars, squawks and gurgles into sounds you can no longer place. Behind it is a Belgian jazz trio, De Beren Gieren. It is for ages 6 and over, capped at 20 participants, and runs from 11:00 to 16:00.
The conductor is 15
Alongside the international names there is a local bill. The Mini Orchestra, led by 15-year-old violinist Gabriel Santos, plays on Saturday at 13:45 in the Main Auditorium foyer. It lasts about 45 minutes, and entry is free once you collect a ticket at the CCB box office by showing a paid ticket for another festival activity.
For grown-ups who want a dark room afterwards, Doclisboa opens on 15 October. Big Bang itself only has these two days.
