RTP's new antiques show has already aired in 11 countries. Now it's Portugal's turn
Negócio Fechado is Portugal's own version of the German antiques format Cash or Trash, and premieres in RTP1's afternoon slot on 5 October, with Tânia Ribas de Oliveira swapping her afternoon talk show for a hunt through heirlooms and hidden fortunes.
After several years hosting RTP1’s afternoon slot, Tânia Ribas de Oliveira is changing shows. From 5 October, weekdays at 3:15pm, she hosts Negócio Fechado, the Portuguese version of Cash or Trash, a German format created by ZDF Studios and distributed internationally by Warner Bros. International Television Production. Portugal is the 12th country to adapt it, following markets including Germany, France, Italy, the UK, Austria, Serbia and Croatia.
The concept is straightforward: ordinary people bring antiques, family heirlooms and curiosities from home, hoping they have stumbled on a small fortune without realising it. An expert appraiser, Eduardo Alves Marques, first reveals what each piece is actually worth and why; sellers then haggle over the price with a panel of buyers made up of collectors Álvaro Roquette, Batata Cerqueira Gomes, Gonçalo Ferreira Marques and Alexandra Carvalho, with Carlos Bessa Pereira rotating in.
The show is a co-production between WBITVP Spain & Portugal and Coral Europa for RTP, and takes over the slot Ribas de Oliveira held with A Nossa Tarde, the talk show she has fronted for the past several years. Since the format launched in Germany in 2013, it has produced more than 10,000 episodes worldwide.
